My Experience as a Runner-Up at the Female Business Awards 2024

I first came across the opportunity to enter the Female Business Awards 2024 at a special networking event Janine Friston put on for International Women’s Day. I had entered industry awards as part of my corporate job years ago before going self-employed but it had never crossed my mind to enter for my own business. I felt drawn to enter because the awards acknowledged the achievements of women in business.
As someone passionate about making a positive impact on the environment through my work, I was excited to see the Sustainability/Planet-Friendly category and this felt like the ideal platform to share my efforts.
The Application Process
One of the aspects I appreciated most about the awards was how straightforward the application process was. The organisers used a simple Google Form, which made it quick and easy to complete. Taking the time to reflect on my work while filling out the form was a valuable exercise in itself.
I also loved that the process allowed me to nominate other women I admire. It was a chance to highlight the efforts of female contacts and business friends who inspire me. The opportunity to contribute to the recognition of others felt just as rewarding as entering myself. I couldn’t believe it when I was shortlisted as a finalist, it was a ‘pinch myself’ moment!
The Awards Ceremony
On the day of the awards ceremony, I was a mixture of nerves and excitement. The event struck a perfect balance between being relaxed and having a touch of glamour. The venue was beautifully set up, creating a welcoming and celebratory atmosphere.
The organisers had clearly put thought into the table plan. I was seated with a mix of familiar faces and new people, which led to engaging conversations and new connections. It was not only a chance to celebrate but also an excellent networking opportunity. Sharing experiences with others who share similar values was both inspiring and energising.
Being Recognised as a Runner-Up
Hearing my name announced as a runner-up in the Sustainability/Planet-Friendly category was an exciting moment. Having my efforts recognised in such a way was incredibly encouraging. While I didn’t take home the top prize, being named a runner-up was an achievement I hadn’t even considered a possibility a year ago and something I’m very proud of.
This recognition has given me a confidence boost as I look ahead to 2025. It’s a reminder that my efforts are valued and making a difference. It’s also inspired me to keep striving for greater impact and continue to push boundaries in my work.
